About Me
You know, the first baby I ever saw breastfeeding was my own. I was 25 and had no idea how to find support. My son and I struggled for months through colic and massive oversupply issues. I was anxious and exhausted, he was gassy and miserable, and the pediatrician just kept saying it was ‘normal.’ We muddled through sleepless nights, explosive diapers, and so many frustrated tears until, finally, my milk supply leveled out. I went on to breastfeed both my babies for a total of six years, an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. But, oh, what I wouldn't give to go back and sit with that sleep-deprived new mom, truly listen, validate her concerns, and offer the gentle, informed support she so desperately needed.
That was back in 2000. Thankfully, things have changed a lot since then. We’ve made strides with legislation protecting our right to breastfeed or chestfeed our babies in public and to secure pumping accommodations for working parents. There’s more awareness, more visibility. But just because breastfeeding / chestfeeding is natural doesn’t mean it’s always easy, and we still grapple with the legacy of generations of parents discouraged from nourishing their children with human milk. Twenty-five years after I gazed in amazement at my newborn son’s first latch, we’re still in the process of replenishing that reservoir of communal knowledge and experience. That’s why I started Montclair Lactation. I want to provide the kind of skilled, compassionate support I craved back then, the kind of support everyone deserves.
My personal experiences have profoundly shaped my approach as a lactation consultant. As a mother and a breast cancer survivor, I understand the challenges and triumphs that come with nurturing and healing. My decade of experience as a midwife working with new families has given me a unique perspective on the profound impact of birth practices on lactation and postpartum and a deep commitment to autonomy and informed choice. And as the mother of a remarkable transgender son, I’m dedicated to providing safe, inclusive, gender-affirming care.
I bring a wealth of expertise to my lactation practice. I'm a Licensed Midwife (LM) in New Jersey, a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). My professional training includes a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from Midwives College of Utah and extensive clinical training in New Jersey and at Gentle Landing Birth Center in Hanover, New Hampshire. I also have a Master of Arts in Teaching from Montclair State University, and I’m a New Jersey Certified Teacher of Biological Sciences with over twelve years of teaching experience which informs my dynamic, engaging approach to client education and communication. I'm here to offer you the support you deserve, backed by personal experience, clinical skill, and heartfelt compassion.
